People think that if you look fairly reasonable, you can't possibly act, and as I only care about acting, I think beauty can be a great handicap.

Unfortunately, most actors want to play off their own personal mystique and good looks and whatever, but that will only carry you but so far.

Let's face facts, this is visual medium, there's a very high premium put on people who are good-looking. But the minute you rely on that you get yourself in trouble. You certainly don't make a career out of that anymore as an actor.

As an actor, you have to get used to being told no, develop a thick skin, and just keep persevering.

I don't think, as an actress, you want to be beautiful. It's actually a disadvantage because that's not where all the interesting parts lie.

It's so rare, actors who are not vain.

So I think it's fair to say it's even more of a challenge for some of these actors that are coming up, because there's such a pressure to look good, to be sexy and be palatable to people on whatever level.

There are actors who are really fantastically talented at being natural on screen and appearing to be themselves, but I like the challenge of becoming somebody else.
