I know when 'California Dreamin' was first released, we heard it on KFWB or KHJ or something, and it was so exciting to hear the record come on the radio.

Single Record of the Year and New Vocalist were such a blessing to see, but when I saw that I was up for Album of the Year, that's when I started to be like, 'What in the world, this is crazy!' That one really got me in a pretty different way.
It really is a dream coming true, being on Billboard.

Two records put me over the top with hip-hop. One of them was 'Planet Rock,' and the other had no lyrics - it was called 'Numbers,' from a group called Kraftwerk. All through the kind of late '80s and '90s, every A&R record company man was saying, 'Now what we want is another record like 'Back in the High Life.' And, of course, that's not the way to make music at all. That's the tail wagging the dog.
Um, well, I made a new CD called 'Dream With Me' and it's out now, and I'm really excited about it.
