I would leave school and go to my theater class, and that's when I'd actually sit down and listen. I wouldn't pay attention in school, or I'd sing in class and get in trouble - I'd always get in trouble. Theater is the only thing I always came back to.

I would literally sit at home and have my friends take pictures of me on my little Canon camera that my mom gave me for Christmas.

Whenever I wasn't in school with a tutor three hours a day, I'd get a knock and be rushed to set and they'd be waiting and I'd film my thing and then I'd go back to school again.

I would leave school every day and walk to my grandparents' house under the El because everyone worked. I was 6 and walking home alone from school. It was a different city and a different time.

I'd skip school regularly to see movies - even in the morning, in the small Parisian theaters that opened early.

Looking back, I think that's why I did music. I'd get home from school and the house would be so quiet.
