I'm child of immigrants.

Many immigrants do not talk about what they endured back home. They were fleeing that world, and when they left they didn't want to talk about it because there had been pain and heartbreak under the caste system of the South. They didn't want to burden their children with what they had endured.

Our young immigrants have a lot to offer. They are motivated and hard-working, and in many cases have already contributed significantly to our society - by excelling in school, by volunteering in their communities, or by serving in the military.

The pro-immigration people are really having a fit saying that I don't care about the children.

Immigrants are people who leave one country, one society, and move to another society. But there has to be a recipient society to which the immigrants move.

I would say to you that Americans of Hispanic descent want desperately to give their children the chances they never had.

My parents were European immigrants. They came to the States with $1,500, two suitcases, and me, and they managed to build a business, a family, and a future for their family. They didn't have any of the resources of people who have lived here for two or three generations.
