I've done every kind of touring known to mankind. I've played the big and the small places.

I've worked with a number of big bands, but there's nothing in life like the Basie band.

I guess I've always been a groupie. My first date was a bull rider called Tommy Lee Bryant. We'd go to the rodeo every Saturday and Sunday. The bull riders were the cool guys.

I mean, gosh, my first tours I ever did were with the Ramones and Iggy Pop and Love & Rockets.

My favorite band is Yes. They are all phenomenal musicians, and yes, this means I'm subject to ridicule from co-workers and occasionally from my wife, three kids, and even our Labradoodle pup.

But I don't mind, I'm a bit of a touring animal. When I'm on tour that is the greatest thrill for me, playing to a live audience.

So I've had lots of different bands over the years who have stayed with me for certain tours.

I always wanted to be in a band with a bunch of dudes who loved Green Day and all that.

Animals play a big part in my life, on tour or at home.
