As a kid from Texas, it always amazes me when city kids don't know how to ride a bike.

As a kid growing up - I can see now - it didn't matter what I did, as long as it was something I could be really good at. Cycling just happened to be the opportunity that came along.

I believe there are two periods in life, one for the bike, the other for becoming active on one's work.

My favorite pastime is to write.

With two kids it's hard to find down time to write so I often write during their nap time.

I talked late, swam late, did not learn to ride a bike until college - and might never have walked or learned to drive a car if my parents hadn't overruled my lack of motivation and virtually forced me to embrace both forms of transportation. I suspect I was happy to sit in a corner with a book.

I used to spend all my school holidays cycling around, so all this training has made me feel like a kid again.

I drop my kid off at school and then race home, and it's a very limited time. I can only do really serious writing for a couple of hours. And then I always go on a walk, I do a one-to-two-hour walk; I don't go running or hard hiking.

When all my kids were at home, I used to write from midnight onwards.

My inventing time is all done under the influence of aerobic exercise. Basically, I do all my thinking while I run.
