My time on the set is the least of my involvement. Most of my time is in pre-production and post-production.

The way I look at a solo project is, I create what I want with whoever I want.

All my work, really, is based on my brothers and sisters. I had so many adventures with them and a big part of the work is to recreate those. It's easy for me to be around a lot of people, because I can retreat. I can watch everything.

People tend to think that because I need all this time on my own in the studio, that I need time on my own, period. And that's not really true.

At Marvel, I was lucky enough to work with really talented people, but I always had this nagging thought: 'One day I'll write my own stories.'

I started to make my own films, however small and however independent they were, from the beginning. And so, even though I was nobody, I was always the master of my own work.

Each time I think I've created time for myself, along comes a throwback to disrupt my private space.

I love comics and have since I was a kid. That is what gave me the idea to create my own.

Over the years, I was never really driven to become a solo artist, but I was curious to find out who I was as an individual creative person. It's taken some time, but now I feel I've truly paid my dues. I guess I'm at a point now where I'm more comfortable in my own skin.

I actually own a copy of my own book; that's how dedicated I am as an author.
