Often you hear stories about never working with children. I disagree because children still have that residual magical thinking. They haven't had their imagination knocked out of them by turning into adults and life experiences.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
Children do not give up their innate imagination, curiosity, dreaminess easily. You have to love them to get them to do that.
Children are so creative and imaginative that they just bring you to life all over again.
Kids delight in 'magical thinking', whether in the form of the Tooth Fairy or the saints: whether you see these as comforting lies or eternal verities, they are part of how we help kids make sense of the world.
There are certain realities we must speak of with our children that were not present when I was a child.
Unfortunately, kids are led to believe things are easier to achieve than they really are.
A lot of kids are broken, and it's hard for them to believe in anything. But you have to have an imaginative mind and tell yourself, 'Hey, I can do whatever I want to.'
Children, I always think, are just putting on a performance of being naive and not understanding anything. I have worked with children in films, and they're treated as adults and they just drop the pretense of being children.
I think we can really use magic in a way never attempted before to inspire these children, help rally their self-confidence and even help them develop social skills. This is a national effort, not just here in Las Vegas. I know we can give them a true passion.
I saw as a teacher how, if you take that spark of learning that those children have, and you ignite it, you can take a child from any background to a lifetime of creativity and accomplishment.
Children are far more interesting to work with than grownups. They're incredibly honest. They'll tell you exactly what they think.
