My activism and sexual revolution in New York was a factor.

I was raised in a very activist household so that I grew up surrounded by people who were activists.

I took an interest in the Civil Rights Movement. I listened to Martin Luther King. The Vietnam War was raging. When I was 18, I was eligible for the draft, but when I went to be tested, I didn't qualify.

The strategy we need to pursue is one of recovering our time - to push back on our hours of work. We need to form a new alliance between feminist groups, labor unions, child advocates, progressive corporations, and the federal government insofar as it's willing to pursue a family-friendly agenda.

I grew up in a family in which political issues were often discussed, and debated intensely.

I got into politics a little bit by chance, as a person from the first generation of the Solidarity movement.
