Appalling things can happen to children. And even a happy childhood is filled with sadnesses.

Such is the life of a man. Moments of joy, obliterated by unforgettable sadness. There's no need to tell the children that.

When children have grieving parents it's also common for them to feel an obligation to cheer them up and make them happy.

I have often thought what a melancholy world this would be without children, and what an inhuman world without the aged.

Illness and problems are the specialties of life. But the death of a child is a cause of mental agony which can be overcome if one concedes this world to be a stage or stadium wherein praiseworthy are those who are not proud of their achievement and those who do not cry at their defeat.

Children may not notice the positive moments in life unless we point them out to them.

Everyone finds my work super sad. I never do. I always find it uplifting in a weird way.

It can be really powerful to write something when you're sad.

It is our duty, as parents and as teachers, to give all children the space to build their emotional strength and provide a strong foundation for their future.
