When I started out I was a failed actor.

My auditions for drama school were miserable, but one thing I had on my side, although I had no experience or skill or training, was that I wanted to learn everything.

Actually, I failed drama in high school because of nerves. I wasn't able to memorize the words. I had complete stage fright.

I failed to get into drama school, and my best friend told me I should do stand-up instead. I was always doing gags and voices, so he booked a gig for me without telling me. I only had four days to write it. I did a seven-minute set; the first four minutes were terrible, but the last two were amazing.

I got into acting classes. I didn't want to just go by luck.

When the time came to make a decision about what do in life, I found myself thinking that acting was the thing I loved to do, so I applied to drama school. And then, I didn't get in - twice.

I didn't get into university, so I had to go to drama college!

Many's the audition I waltzed into unprepared and wondered why I didn't get it. I learned the hard way.
