Adult characters are all the things they've encountered over time. But kids haven't accumulated all the life experience, all the regrets. They tend to be more in the moment, more willing to play, to be joyful.

I've always enjoyed teen characters, and kids as well. For whatever reason, I seem to have an ability to do it sort of well, and I enjoy doing it.

The whole point of having great characters is the opportunity to explore them more deeply with time, re-interpreting them for each new age.

Character roles definitely age better than your ingenues. You don't get to keep doing that.

Getting older has been a bonus for me. I feel lucky that parts are being written for someone my age and I am around to play them.

I think every major character I've played was originally for an older woman. I have no idea what that says. I guess I'm mature for my age.

A lot of the characters I end up playing have a certain degree of glamour or sexiness, but I like it when you can have some other element that makes it much more interesting.

With young people, it's how brassy and flashy can you be. But you get a bit older, it's about how restrained can you be. You have to feel it all, think it all, but you don't have to play it - it's just gotta be there, and if the story's good and the script's good, people will see it.

I love playing really strung out characters, and characters that are really pushed to their limits and losing their mind. I think that's wonderful. To be able to lose it, in many ways, is just great fun to do.

But, you know, it really depends on the character. Age doesn't really matter.
