To say that people would cease to come to California if they would have to pay more taxes is to underestimate the advantages of being in California - mightily.

There are still states that have not evolved so much as California, that still skimp on recognition and, even worse, the rights of immigrants.

Instead, California is one of only 10 states that provides in-state college and university tuition to illegal immigrants. That's grossly unfair to a legal high school student who moves out of California for a year, then returns to attend college.

Clearly, high energy prices will have a large negative effect on the California economy and could possibly drag the rest of the nation into a recession.

California has the highest number of illegal immigrants residing in its borders. The estimated number of illegal alien residents in California was about 2.2 million, or nearly 32 percent of the total number of illegal immigrants in the United States.

I'll never understand how destroying families through deportation benefits our society. How we treat the undocumented says a great deal about us as a people and whether or not we'll continue to fulfill the fundamental American promise of equality and opportunity for all.

It is unacceptable that immigrants, including children, are shackled and detained in deplorable conditions. And it is unacceptable that already this year immigrants have died by the dozens in the California desert or in other parts of the Southwest.

The apparent ease of California life is an illusion, and those who believe the illusion real live here in only the most temporary way.

The biggest problem that we have is that California is being run now by special interests. All of the politicians are not anymore making the moves for the people, but for special interests and we have to stop that.
