Being able to stay with a character over the course of years is a gift.

When you're playing the same character for a decade it's natural that there are moments when you want to try something new.

You go through phases. You have to reinvent reasons for playing, and one year's answer might not do for another.

If you've been around as long as I have, watching the literary scene, then you know that who's in and who's out changes by the year. It's really a very fluid situation that requires that the person who is having the good luck now isn't having it a year or two from now.

Year Up for me is a year in which the young adults that we serve have an opportunity to move up in their lives and gain the access and opportunity they need to realize their potential.

The whole point of having great characters is the opportunity to explore them more deeply with time, re-interpreting them for each new age.

Character roles definitely age better than your ingenues. You don't get to keep doing that.

I prefer to have longevity. I like as great a variety as possible, hopefully to avoid getting stuck in one kind of character, having to do it over and over again. I seek to challenge myself as an actor - and at the same time support my family.

If you change a character too much, the audience falls out of love with the character, but characters need to evolve and grow over the years.

If you spend too much time wondering what you're going to feel like in year five, you're not going to feel anything in year one.
