I've been blessed with enough wealth that I can make a film myself up to a certain budget. So one way I thought I would reinvent myself was just to make these very small, personal films that I've financed myself.

I started to make my own films, however small and however independent they were, from the beginning. And so, even though I was nobody, I was always the master of my own work.

For seven years, I made films in the cinema verite tradition - photographing what was happening without manipulating it. Then I realised I wanted to make things happen for myself, through feature films.

I made lots of short films, about nine or ten short films. And then I made a television film called 'This Little Life.'

I really enjoy working on small films.

Short films really helped me develop as a story teller, animator, and as a director.

On the last couple of movies I made - big-budget Hollywood movies - I really missed being able to create my own material.

I've got one idea I want to do for a film and you know I just enjoy myself doing bits and pieces.

I want to get into producing and writing more for myself - setting up my own films and seeing what kind of personal touch I can put on movies, as opposed to just being in them.

Making movies is my profession. I like doing it a lot.
