Anyone who has been to India - specifically Rajasthan, the rich and kingly region in the country's northwest - knows that when it comes to adornment, Indians do not think like other people.

Jal Mahal, Jaipur, holds a special place for me and it is especially beautiful by night. I enjoy our stay at the old havelis in the region.

When we think of India, most of us are in fact thinking of Rajasthan, that large splotch of dun-colored desert in the country's northwest which, from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries, was ruled by a succession of maharajas whose sense of color, opulence, and splendor created the most enduring images of India in the West.

I grew up in Kolkata in a traditional family. We had friends who lived in mansions just like the one in 'Oleander Girl.' Growing up, I was fascinated by the old house and the old Bengal lifestyle.

I live in a neighborhood where there's a lot of West Indian culture, so it's nice.

My ancestors are Rajputs from Jaipur, a lineage of the royal family.

I'm intrigued by traditional Indian designs. They are so beautifully handcrafted, and the designs are so intricate and beautiful. I really prefer the Indian designs.

Gujarat is truly vibrant. Be it handicrafts, folk music, art, costumes or food - the state offers the best of everything.

The Indians have such strong traditions and aesthetics, and the people are beautiful, as are their goods.
