I still to this day get the most inspiration from rap lyrics.

The first thing that inspires any song is a chord progression. When I have one I really like, I get into the lyrics even more.

I feel like my lyrics are just dark and scathing. I feel like the lyrics on 'Darkest Before Dawn' are uncompromised hip-hop and really speaking to my core fan base. Basically what's been known in my discography the entire time.

Sometimes I'll have an idea for a story or have a subject, and that will inspire lyrics, but most of the time, hopefully, they already exist somewhere else.

I'm the guy that gets up at three in the morning to jot down an entire sheet of lyrics for something that won't be recorded for six months. You have to get it down when you can, because thoughts are fluid.

The lyrics are always the last thing I do. I always have a recording of basic tracks and maybe some of the lead work. I'll sit back and listen to it, and I'll just concentrate on what kind of feeling it gives me. My goal writing the lyrics is to not disrupt that feeling.

Every time I get up in the morning, melodies occur to me and I start trying to shape lyrics to melodies.

I'm a great believer in letting lyrics just flow out, wherever they come from.

I am never without my lyric book. If anything inspirational happens, I have it there so nothing's forgotten.
