Pete Rose is the most likable arrogant person I've ever met.

I think Pete did have a hard time as a kid with his appearance. But don't all kids have a hard time? God, I had a hard time, too. I was little with bow legs and rickets. I used to get picked on like everybody used to get picked on.

I am very proud of what 'Johnny' achieved in stand-up comedy because he believed entirely in giving an audience the best kick he could. But he was someone who was quite detrimental to my health, both emotionally and physically.

But Pete had the desire to play at the highest level for so many years. That is very difficult, mentally.

Proud about my father? What am I most proud of? I think I'm proud of the legacy he left I think is what it is. He has left us so much.

Any time you're mentioned in the same breath as Tony Esposito, for whatever reason, it's a great honor. He's one of my idols. He's one of the greatest of all time.

Pete Bethune is a hero in New Zealand. He's a hero worldwide to people who want to see the end of whaling.
