My childhood was as heavily gendered as any you would find in a working-class household in Lincolnshire.

I grew up in a very small country town in Victoria. I had a very normal, low-key kind of upbringing. I went to school, I hung out with my friends, I fought with my younger sisters. It was all very normal.

My life has been that of someone who has moved from the countryside to the society. To make that transition, I have had to learn a lot.

My return to London introduced me to a wider range of society.

In England, I met a couple who run a children's home. They were very kind and showed me many nice spots in England.

My parents were born in Norfolk and spent their early years working in the big houses of that rural English county, my mother as a cook and my father as a handyman and chauffeur.

I was born in a small suburb of Ilford in a rather nasty housing estate that my mother despised. She had grown up in the country, so when the war came and I was evacuated to Wales she thought I was much better off there.

I grew up in a rural area, I was from kind of a poor family and my parents weren't showbiz people. But going back was strange, and perhaps stranger for the other students.
