In my younger days, I was trying to write sophisticated prose and fantastic stories.

In the early Seventies, I started writing a little autobiographical novel about my childhood - I made it into a mystery story.

I was the typical little sister who wanted to be just like her older brother. When I was growing up, my brother wrote phenomenal stories, so I wanted to write them, too.

I used to be an editor and I was editing young adult series. I didn't really like the books that I was reading, so I decided that I would write a book about something I'd want to read if I was 16. It turned into a Cinderella story... I developed a proposal and the characters of 'Gossip Girl' for my job.

From a very young age, stories fuelled my imagination in the most wonderful way.

Storybooks were always a big part of my imagination, and my childhood and adolescence.

I wrote my first story when I was six or seven.

A lot of my early career, I wrote story songs that had narratives, that had plots.

I wanted to write stories I wanted to read, that I and my friends related to.

All I wanted to do was read, to be told stories. Stories were full of excitement and emotions and characters that entertained and often inspired.
