I will not promote other people's songs big time. I will just mention that I produced the song to get the credit I think I deserve.

Since I was the solo artist as well as the writer for the songs, I figured I had enough credits on it already.

My songs are the reflection of how I think and how I feel in that moment. But I'm conscious of the fact that artists have a responsibility before the masses and they have to take care with their words.

Not to take anything away from artists who don't write their own songs, but it's always been important to me to make sure it's my story.

You can tell an honest artist from one who's just given all their songs.

A lot of times, I don't feel responsible for the songs myself. But that's my job or my place in life: to keep my search and catch the ideas before they pass me by.

I see what other people do and what songwriters don't. They don't get out and take care of themselves. Producers turn themselves into a massive brand. Songwriters tend to be under someone else's umbrella. If you're building your own legacy, it can't be under an umbrella.

Even though other people wrote my songs I put my stamp on them. I have a connection, but there is no truer connection than an artists and their own song.

As a singer, I just want to try to honor what the writers create - and as someone who's trying to write songs, I just hope I can stand in their company and not embarrass myself.

I don't believe that songwriting has to be profound, but I truly believe that it's a crime for you to go outta your way for it not to be.
