I recorded my first jazz record in the '70s.

When I started recording, I thought I'd be able to do all kinds of records: jazz, country, dance - and I've always wanted to do a gospel album.

I was brought up in a house with a lot of appreciation for music, all kinds of music, including jazz. But I never knew that it could really be a career. I didn't know any jazz singers. I never saw live jazz. I only heard these records.

So I went into jazz and performed in jazz clubs all over the country.

I would love to make a real jazz album someday because I never have. But that's something I'm not in a rush to do.
