After years of police work, officers often can't help but be influenced by the cynicism they feel.

My show is not just a cop hosting a talk show - the two are completely different. My show is about helping people stand up to the bad guy.

The last time I was in a Marshals' office, they had a poster of 'Justified' up. I asked them, 'Did you know I was coming by, so you put up a poster of the show?' And they said, 'Oh, we all love it... you guys make us look good.' I thought, this is great. If they like it, we really did something here.

I definitely support cop acting more than cops, but all of them ain't bad, just some of them.

I know a lot of police officers who are on the force to do the right thing to protect people. But how can you deny this pattern, this disturbing pattern, Alton Sterling, Mr. Castile in my own community, Philando Castile, but then Tamir Rice, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland?

Over the years, I've become barraged by comments from people, such as, 'Beam me up, Scotty!' and I became defensive. I felt they were derisive and engendered an attitude. I am grateful for the success, but didn't want to be mocked.

If someone said, 'Sit down and write a 'Community' episode,' I would be panicked.
