I'm a filmmaker. I'm always searching for the truth in everything I do. I demand it from my writing partner and my crew, actors, and so hopefully, we're making people think.

The kinds of stories I want to be a part of telling are about delving into what it is to be a human being.

I need to tell the world what I'm about, my nature, because not doing so would be teaching my children how to lie. I didn't want it to be.

I aim to tell the truth about any subject, not a romance or fantasy, not avoid the truth.

I'll write about myself, or people I know, or archetypal characters, but the goal is to get at some truth, not to necessarily convey my own experience as an individual to the world.

My purpose is to make my narrative as truthful as possible.

My role is to just tell the highest degree of truth with every character and every story. From there, I have no clue whatsoever how things are going to turn out.

Through language, we can tell the truth and hear the truth spoken, just as we can be deceived. Sometimes it's a painful realization: we can be lied to. As I write, I think of myself as putting my eye under oath, so that what I write is the truth about my characters.

The kind of fiction I'm trying to write is about telling the truth.

As a writer, I have to show complexities. Through my writings, I hope to bring out people in different situations and not just one-dimensional beings.
