It there any nation that acknowledges its errors and its sins and its crimes and the things it has done that are not consistent with its principles more than the United States? No, there is not.

Some people will have to be afraid. Those who plunder the nation, deliver injustice, will have to feel scared of me. And I am not afraid of admitting this. Government cannot be so lenient that it forgives them.

What I haven't apologised for is the original concept of seeking to bring justice to all South Africans through the concept of nation states.

It's a shame and a disgrace that so few people take part in the political process.

We tend to think of World War II and all the atrocities that happened, and people say, 'Never again.' But these things are still happening. The Amnesty International files are big.

The U.S. - the idea that the U.S. has introduced and imposed principles of international law, that's hardly even a joke. The United States has even gone so far as to veto Security Council resolutions calling on all states to observe international law. That was in the 1980s under Reagan.

The U.S. used to be perceived as the moral leader of the world, and we have absolutely lost that.

In many countries today, moral and ethical norms are being reconsidered; national traditions, differences in nation and culture are being erased.

I am not very moved by historical apologies.
