I'm not the most talented writer in the world. I know that. But I also know that I'm disciplined, that I work my butt off, and that I make myself write as much as I can. Writer's block is a luxury I can't afford. I'm a professional writer, which means that I put my butt in the chair each day, and I write. Simple as that.

What I've become convinced makes a writer are the days you hate it, the days you'd rather stick those pencils in your eyes. Sometimes I almost punish myself - if I'm not going be able to write, I'm not going be able to do anything else. I just sit there and wait.

I like to believe that I don't think of myself as a writer. I am an amateur. Back when I was teaching, I wrote when I could. Weekends were good typewriter time. Now, it's whenever I feel there's something to be put on paper. I don't care what time it is, though I always write in the notebooks at night.

I kind of live like a writer. I get up and I write. I've done that my whole life.

What I tend to do is I try and get as much writing done... I get as much writing done at home before I go into work.

I'm very happy with the way I write. I think I do it good. But I've never really considered myself a writer.

I have no writing habit. I work when I feel like it, and I work when I have to - mostly the latter.
