Songs are really interesting in that way. Sometimes, they grow with you. Sometimes, you outgrow them.

You know, it's funny how songs continue to grow and evolve and become a new and deeper reflection of your life.

My songs are like my children - I expect them to support me when I'm old.

When I look at the majority of my own songs they really came from my own sense of personal confusion or need to express some pain or beauty - they were coming from a universal and personal place.

I'm such an emotional and sensitive person, so it only makes sense that my songs are as well.

Most of my songs aren't about me. They're about stuff I've seen.

A lot of my fans are young and hip and enjoy my pop album and know the lyrics to those songs as well, which is a real compliment to me.

There's always a group of songs that I'm working at. Some of them are 10 years old, and some of them are just a few weeks old. I'm always trying to adjust these songs to some position where I can bring them to completion.
