I'm no Ripley. I had doubts that I could play her as strongly as she had to be played, but I must say that it was fun exploring that side of myself. Women don't get to do that very often.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
When I started the original 'Alien,' Ripley wasn't a woman, it was a guy.
I certainly have played women who have a pioneer spirit and longing for adventure.
I don't think Ripley is gay. He appreciates good looks in other men, that's true. But he's married in later books. I'm not saying he's very strong in the sex department. But he makes it in bed with his wife.
For Ripley I learned to play some songs on the piano, and I never really played them again.
We just really wanted Hit-Girl to be a character who, in a sense, simply happens to be an 11-year-old girl, in the same way that Ripley in 'Alien' could have been a guy, but the part happened to be played by Sigourney Weaver.
But Nature cast me for the part she found me best fitted for, and I have had to play it, and must play it till the curtain falls.
Ripley is married. And he's not lost. He has his feet on the ground.
Yes, I know I've played these women, but I'm not really conniving at all.
I was certainly never conscious of 'playing the woman.' I would not have approved of that. It is not a winning tactic. I operated in the world as I found it, and it was a man's world.
I love the role of Ripley.
