I feel the only way I can survive is to spend a lot of time writing songs. I have to have incredible, killer songs that also are hits, or I just don't have a chance.

It's all like that for me. I could go in and write two or three songs in an eight-hour session. You can't over-think songs. You just can't.

I write songs to turn myself into something else. And then I become that, and I want to become something else.

I like writing and don't confine myself to just the words or just the music. But I don't particularly write songs with myself in mind.
