I was a college dropout, hitchhiking across the Midwest. That was part of the old, adventurous spirit.

I also grew up on a farm in east Tennessee, so my roots are just naturally super southern, so I've always had that southern country lifestyle.

I grew up in a rural area. I grew up in deep southern middle Tennessee, probably about thirty miles from the Alabama border. There's nothing there, really. And the TV was my link to the outside world. It's what kept me from going into factory employment. It's what made me want to go to college. It was really inspiring.

I'm a Texan. Some of me is still nestled up there in the Catskill Mountains: the summers I spent with my grandfather on the farm and the guys I played basketball with in high school. But then that was it.

When I was 19 years old, I hitchhiked across the country to San Francisco.

I was raised on a farm in East Tennessee, and my first concert was Britney Spears. It's my job as a country music artist to be honest about that.

I'm from Dallas. My whole family is based in Texas and Mississippi and Arkansas, spread throughout most of the South.

I grew up in trailer houses in New Mexico, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.

I grew up just outside of Austin, and my upbringing was fairly rural.
