When I was a teenager, I loved photography and writing.

Fiction came quite a while later. I began with short stories and fiction for children.

I wrote as a kid, but I never wanted to be a writer, particularly. I had been drawing and painting for years and loved that.

I chose photography over writing. I had to make a living.

I was always interested in creative writing growing up. From junior high on, I was writing short stories. I also grew up watching movies. My father would take me to everything. Most weeks, I could open the paper having seen every movie listed.

I began writing fictional stories and little screenplays when I was in fifth grade.

Writing was something I always as a kid thought would be fabulous and glamorous to be a writer.

I had been writing fiction since I was in eighth grade, because I loved it.

I wrote fiction during my entire childhood, from age 4 to 18, and started writing plays when I went to Yale and Oxford.
