I started out in clubs, and I've always liked clubs. I like theaters because people are there for the show.

As much as we love playing the small clubs, we'd really like to get ourselves in front of a larger audience. I'm not talking about arenas or anything, but nice theaters and larger clubs.

Other than Caroline's in New York, I pretty much haven't done clubs. That was primarily because I always liked the people and audiences at theaters and bars better.

Obviously there is stuff that I wouldn't play in a club that I play at festivals, and vice-versa, but my sets are still dominated largely by my own music. I think that's what makes me stand out a bit. My music is also festival- and club-friendly, so it generally works out well.

I love little theatres because it's very intimate, and you can have a very easy rapport with the audience. Everyone's in the same room.

I love theaters. I love the event of going there and seeing a movie with a lot of people. I like the community coming around the story.

Small clubs aren't as lucrative, but spiritually, they're my favorite places to play. It's a homey kind of thing. I refer to it as the Church of What's Happening Now.

I've played Madison Square Garden and Jones Beach several times, but I personally don't enjoy those larger venues. I much prefer theater or a performance space.

I love the crowds at festivals because they're so chilled out.

I go to screenings, then plays, then after-parties, then clubs.
