There is a reason you keep hearing about the power of educating girls in the developing world. It's a reason so simple that you will probably view it with suspicion, as I once did. It's this: educating girls works. Really works.

I think I've really learned how important it is to empower women.

Everything has to do with education: If you educate the girls, you educate the family, the community, and society, in general.

My goal is to give young girls confidence in this world so they can be more like men in the decision-making process.

I would like to be a positive force for young girls.

The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it.

You learn that the only way to get rock-star power as a girl is to be a groupie and bare your breasts and get chosen for the night. We learn that the only way to get anywhere is through men. And it's a lie.

Female empowerment really is important to me. I'm a big nerd of the books from the 15th Century and 16th Century, when the men had all the power and the women had none of it.
