I was not an activist.

I find myself walking these lines. Like I might be an artist, but I also might be an activist. And I'm trying to be both in a way that honors both and doesn't stray too far into either.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can call myself an activist because I don't really do enough of anything.

I see so many activists... who are artists because they feel that they have the power of communication.

Art and activism seem to go together naturally, the idea being that if you're an entertainer, you can have a voice, and if you have a voice, you can make a difference. But if I were not an actress, I would still try to extend myself beyond my little micro-universe of my job, family and personal joy.

I don't want to spend all my time working as an activist. I don't get satisfaction out of it. I'd rather be doing something else. I'm a musician.

I don't necessarily see myself as an activist, running down the street and knocking at every door.

I have a more direct avenue to expression as an artist than I ever would as a politician.
