You have to love the characters you play, even if no one else does.

You have to like your character, because if you don't, no one else will either.

There are scripts when you fall so much in love with your character. And if you are lucky and offered this part, you should not tempt your fate and go to the greatest extent to be/to play this character. If you have an opportunity to do that and you do not, it's shameful.

You have to be able to toss the thing out. You can't fall in love with your characters, and you have to know when to fight - and when to quit.

What makes us love a character is a character that tries.

I think you have to love the characters that you write. I don't know how you could possibly write a TV show where you didn't love the characters.

You mustn't fall in love with your own hero.

You love all your characters, even the ridiculous ones. You have to on some level; they're your weird creations in some kind of way. I don't even know how you approach the process of conceiving the characters if in a sense you hated them. It's just absurd.
