People's behaviour towards you changes when your films don't work. It's a painful period.

Commercial movies have no feeling, no sensitivity. Most people tell me people won't understand films with feeling. But everyone can feel.

When my films don't do well, I'm hurt and surprised. It's discouraging.

With every film that you do, you're always so nervous. You feel exposed because you know people will see this eventually. You sort of have to put all that out of your head. What will be will be. But it's nerve wracking.

When I stopped making films, they were getting on to the more realistic films and the explicit films and all. They were depicting life as it is, and some of it was unpleasant. I gradually moved away from that.

I get emotionally attached with every film I do, and that stops me from being critical. I can't fight my emotions.

Sometimes when we weep in the movies we weep for ourselves or for a life unlived. Or we even go to the movies because we want to resist the emotion that's there in front of us. I think there is always a catharsis that I look for and that makes the movie experience worthwhile.

Usually when I am in a movie that is about to come out, if people don't love it, that is fine - I can handle it.
