Directing is a really kind of amazing thing, because you're helping others and, in the middle of that, you have to worry about yourself.

Directing is mystifying. It's a long, long, skid on an icy road, and you do the best you can trying to stay on the road... If you're still here when you come out of the spin, it's a relief. But you've got to have the terror if you're going to do anything worthwhile.

It's fun to be on the edge. I think you do your best work when you take chances, when you're not safe, when you're not in the middle of the road, at least for me, anyway.

I want to be cutting-edge.

I love directing. It's where my heart is, and it's the way my mind works.

If I could really move my career much more into predominantly directing, I would jump at that.

Directing is so interesting. You know, it just sort of encompasses everything that you see, that you know, that you've felt, that you have observed.
