Writing songs for other people was never the goal for me.

My goals are to tell meaningful stories through songs and touch people's lives... and hopefully make a living doing it.

I have yet to write that one song that defines my career.

The most important thing for me is the thing I strive for. But I also hope when I play my songs for people - adult, children, mostly children - that they feel mighty, they feel noble, they feel like warriors. And they feel like they can do anything in the world because that's how I feel.

My story is a freedom song of struggle. It is about finding one's purpose, how to overcome fear and to stand up for causes bigger than one's self.

A lot of my songs are about taking whatever life throws at you and making the most of it.

I try and journal every day, and that's where a lot of my lyric comes from.

The lyrics are always the last thing I do. I always have a recording of basic tracks and maybe some of the lead work. I'll sit back and listen to it, and I'll just concentrate on what kind of feeling it gives me. My goal writing the lyrics is to not disrupt that feeling.

I've definitely got a lot more cautious about my lyrics - I feel I want to be a positive force in the world, and I want to uplift people. That's something that comes with age.
