What I read, I read thoroughly and retain almost all of it.

When I have a book I enjoy, I'm partly in the book. I'm not just observing it.

I tend to follow a scattershot approach to reading a lot of very diverse subjects interest me, and I'm quite happy to read stuff on any of them.

So, whenever I'm writing, I'm writing in the presence of all the other books I've read and I think we all are.

I am the kind of writer that people think other people are reading.
