I like complicated characters.

I find more of an authenticity in people who are a little strange - so I really like characters who are just the tiniest bit weird. I find enormous comfort in that - someone who's kind of normal just doesn't feel as true.

In the past, I was always drawn to really quirky, idiosyncratic characters.

To me, the more bizarre the character, the more I'm attracted to it.

I never really thought about what characters I play. I always just wanted different characters.

I like characters who are contradictory.

I like characters that make me feel challenged and sort of inspired.

I don't want a perfect character, I want a character who has, as strange as it sounds, some humanity, some flaws, some needs.

I like to take these unusual characters and then make them as normal as possible, because we all know that the tragedy and the abnormal always hides itself behind the normal.

I like all my characters in one way or another, or at least I understand them.
