There's no reason to raise taxes. Taxes should be lower... The problem we have is that government spends too much, not that taxes are too low.

I think that for the next short period of time, our No. 1 priority is Congress needs to do its work and extend the payroll tax cut.

We need long-term tax reform that promotes private sector job creation. And legislated mandates that kill jobs by raising the cost of payrolls need to be eliminated.

Higher taxes is the road to ruin. We must and we will shrink our government, and that means making some tough choices, tightening our belts.
