It seems so long ago that I played the part of the Doctor.

I temporarily became a surgeon for 'Memory of Love'. I spent two weeks in an operating theatre, watching amputations, and I loved it.

I went to drama school at NYU for serious acting. So I was doing Chekov and Sam Shepard plays.

It wasn't until I got involved in 'Doctor Who' that I started doing dramas on television.

I used to be a real doctor. Now I just play one on TV.

While at college, I did my first lead on a network TV show, Medic.

Doctor Who was a big part of my childhood so it was a great honour to be in it.

I was only 23 and just out of college when I filmed 'Casualty' and so nervous, but it was brilliant fun. I was really lucky, and it really helped my career.
