We continue to be vigilant.

Remaining vigilant toward this ever-present threat means constantly learning how better to protect ourselves. But primarily it reminds us that we must fight and win the war on terror, so that we do not have to fight it here in America.

We must continue to ensure law enforcement has the necessary tools to combat terrorism here at home. We must also work with our allies and provide our military with the weapons and protective gear they need to defeat terrorism abroad.

This past year has been very turbulent for the Middle East, and my conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu strengthened my belief that we need to remain vigilant in our support of our critical ally.

We must fight terrorism as if there's no peace process and work to achieve peace as if there's no terror.

At the end of the day we want to bring stability and hope to Iraq. That's the only way to defeat terrorism.

Much has been accomplished during the last year in the campaign against terrorism. This struggle will require vigilance, perseverance and sacrifice for many years to come.

We know that terrorism is going to happen in the future, and we need to be prepared for it.

And we need to maintain our foothold in the fight against terrorism and terrorist groups and respond to any degradation of Iraqi security or stability.

We have to make sure that we are a force for peace and stability in the world, and that we're prepared to defend freedom and the security of the American people.
