Rap for me is like making movies, telling stories, and getting the emotions of the songs through in just as deep a way.

I look at rap as an opportunity to act. My head is full of different characters - in each song I'm auditioning a character.

I'm writing songs to perform, to entertain. And when I'm really trying to get inspired, I go backwards, and I just rap.

The writing process, the way I go about it is I do whatever the beat feels like, whatever the beat is telling me to do. Usually when the beat comes on, I think of a hook or the subject I want to rap about almost instantly. Within four, eight bars of it playing I'm just like, 'Oh, OK. This is what I wanna do'.

I'm not really into rap.

I'm just basically spillin' out my emotions to the world. 'Cause rap is about emotion. And I want you to feel what I'm feelin', 'cause that's what it's all about.

Rap is something you can just throw on the skillet and fry up real quick. That's how it comes to me, my train of thought. It's like getting dressed - I don't have to sit down and stare at clothes, I just pick what I like and put it on. But rock, you gotta put it in the oven and let it bake.

If you're doing a music film, you've got to be singing about something.
