It's hard to find vehicles for your music.

There's some *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys on my iPod. I listen to it if it comes up on shuffle.

If I'm going on any trip, driving music is key. Road Hammers is good driving music. I don't mind listening to my own stuff. You record it for a certain reason. You fall in a love with a certain song at a certain time and how you record it is a labour of love. You better love it.

'Drive,' that's the one. I love dozens of songs by R.E.M., but that's the one, even though it took me 7 or 8 years to start liking it.

It's easy to make an album full of great songs. But I want people to go for the ride. The songs have to make sense together.

Where I'm from is like 'Hustle & Flow' versus '8 Mile.' It's that really grimy, box-Chevy, dope-boy, working-class music.

The thing with One Direction songs is that you can probably break them all down to an acoustic guitar and vocal.

There are a million good tunes.

I like old tunes when I'm driving. They're fun and uplifting. Billy Ocean, that kind of thing.

Whenever I see something that looks like it could be good - whether it's on vinyl, CD or cassette - if it's not too expensive, I'll take a chance.
