The best critics do not worry about what the author might think. That would be like a detective worrying about what a suspect might think. Instead, they treat the reader as an intelligent friend, and describe the book as honestly, and as entertainingly, as possible.

We all have these tendencies in us that could go this way or that. I think that's the real key in writing. To look at a character without judgment.

Folks really need to be very cautious about overanalyzing or overparsing what I've said to this reporter or that reporter.
