Usually in stories there are big problems in the beginning or couples are pulling away, there's a lot of bitterness.

There's conflict in every story.

When you're a writer, you're always looking for conflict. It's conflict that drives great stories.

If you have a beautiful story, it has to have conflict. If you don't have conflict, it can't be a good story.

It just seems like the most successful, iconic love stories are not so easy or escapist. I think the ones that stay with us and resonate are full of conflict, discord and misunderstandings 'cause that's what makes drama happen or tension even if it's a comedy.

Of course, all writers draw upon their personal experiences in describing day-to-day life and human relationships, but I tend to keep my own experiences largely separate from my stories.

When it all boils down, it's about embracing each others' stories and maybe even finding that synergy to collaborate for the common good.

But I also think all of the great stories in literature deal with loneliness. Sometimes it's by way of heartbreak, sometimes it's by way of injustice, sometimes it's by way of fate. There's an infinite number of ways to examine it.

Emotionally, in our minds, we get so filled with resentments where we've got a story about absolutely everything.

The stories we tell about each other matter very much. The stories we tell ourselves about our own lives matter. And most of all, I think the way that we participate in each other's stories is of deep importance.
