I'm a real simple person. I believe that the Bible means what it says, and says what it means.

Throughout my life, the scriptures have been a way for God to reveal things to me that are personal and helpful. When I was a little boy, I was given a small Bible. If I remember correctly, it was only the New Testament.

But the more we search the Scriptures, the more we perceive, in this doctrine, the fundamental truth of the gospel - that truth which gives to redemption its character, and to all other truths their real power.

The scriptures were one of the ways God spoke to me - even when I was a child - about my needs, my situation, and my life. They still are. Since our needs change over a lifetime, God has different things to tell us at different times.

The New Testament is of full authority and open to the understanding of simple men as to the points most needful to salvation.

The Bible for me is holy writ. It's a very straightforward thing, although I am not a literalist.
