When you are real in your music, people know it and they feel your authenticity.

What I say is from my heart. You must be sincere. So when I sing a song, people are supposed to feel it.

There's only so many things to sing about, so what's going to make a song appeal to you more than someone else's is just a unique way of saying the same thing.

I sing to the realists; people who accept it like it is.

I hope that what it comes down to at the end of the day is that people believe that I believe what I'm singing. It comes down to being believable. You don't have to be likeable; generally, though, I think I am.

Even if you can't relate to what I'm singing, I hope you can believe in it and see it as something that it is real.

It is one of the most validating things for an artist like me, to have people sing along to your songs.

For some reason I've been labeled that and it's fine, but there are a lot of other artists that sing real traditional stuff, so I don't know why they picked me. That's what I've always done.

I can go to a country song, go right into it and make it sound authentic. And I think that's because of my ear as an impressionist.
