Every single note on this album is there for a reason.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
It can even be a single note which defines the entire song.
Everything I do, whether it's producing or signing an artist, always starts with the songs. When I'm listening, I'm looking for a balance that you could see in anything. Whether it's a great painting or a building or a sunset.
Every song is different.
But when you hear the complete album, it gets dark, really straight-up rock, with some really intimate moments with just me and the piano. It's not completely me because there are parts of me that aren't on that song, that are on the album.
I feel that after all those horrible reviews and jokes, I wasn't crazy all these years to stand up for the music I believe in. This album has proven that somewhere in the human race, the human heart is still racing and breaking and I am so grateful.
I find so many songwriters today are missing an element... either the production is amazing but the songs aren't, or it's the other way around.
There are only so many notes so there must be only so many melodies.
There aren't reasons why you like this song or this piece of music, or don't like it. It's just, it's either right or wrong, you know?
I realized at a young age that sequence in an album is almost as important as the songs that are on the album.
Our albums just tend to be collections of songs really, because we all write in the group, all four of us.
